1914- Part One ‘Our Story About Love’

29.10.2014 - 31.10.2014
This is the first play in a series of plays that will tell the World War 1 story 1914-1918 and the impact and effect that singular event had on the small rural farming community of Kojonup Western Australia. It will contribute to our community’s centenary commemoration and an understanding of our own historical narrative using theatre as way in which to engage the past.
The play combines the historical facts and characters based loosely around the stories that we do know. Some of it is completely fictionalized. The narrative is told both through character portrayal and through narrators that link the events on stage to the real events in history.
The play explores reactions of different families and in doing so depicts how love was represented against the backdrop of the Great War.

Event Information:
Official opening night reception: 6pm start
Doors open: 7.00pm
Production starts: 7.45pm

For tickets: (to be announced)

Kojonup RSL Exhibition

29.10.2014 - 07.11.2014
There will be an exhibition of memorabilia from the First World War which also includes carefully researched histories of some men who were Kojonup soldiers. Panels, courtesy of the Remembering them project, explore ‘Those who went’, ‘Those who waited’ and ‘Those who returned’. Remembering them is a project instigated by the WA Museum, Museums Australia WA Branch and Royal West Australian Historical Society assisting rural communities to develop exhibitions reflecting the impact of World War One on their communities. Display items include a 10th Light Horse saddle kit, various implements of war – such as bayonets, helmets and gas masks, sympathy cards and citations and much more.

This display purposely coincides with the Albany Anzac Commemorations to encourage people to stop a while in this highway town.

29.10.2014- Official Opening
Commencing at 1.30pm, but everyone is welcome before hand
Bill Edgar to officially open the display
